Meet the Band...

Gimmicks originate from a devised idea of the creator, Leif Carlquist, to establish a band that is based on funky samba rhythms and a new kind of member line-up.

Leif says:

"The concept's crucial point is to bring musicians and singers of different origins together in a varied mix from time to time, why I have always picked each musician by hand one-by-one to fit into the mood and style of my plans for the next project. The credit notes on each cover of Gimmicks recordings, as well as member list below, illustrate the wide variation of musicians and nationalities representing a typical mix of my Gimmicks ensembles.

Examples of such international musicians and soloists are Josip "Pepe" Seidl from Yugoslavia, Waldemar Haijer & Wlodek Gulgowski from Poland, Francis Cowan from England, Sabu Martinéz & Peri Ruberio & Joao Meirelles from Brazil, Diana Nuñez from USA and Jerry Stensen from the Netherlands. Along with a number of Swedish contributors I also invited soloist stars such as Annifrid Lyngstad from ABBA, Tomas Ledin, and on the new album 'Move To The Bossa Groove" you can hear Björn J:son Lindh playing the flute ('Roda'). The members for the new Gimmicks constellation of 2005 constitutes a mix of Swedish vocalists and English musicians.

Gimmicks will always be brought to the audience with a little help from all my friends here and there around the world."

In 1969 a growing demand for Gimmicks' typical sound and style opened doors into a new world of discoveries primarily in Mexico, Japan, Switzerland, France, Bahamas, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

Today, they are back on track again, heading a new generation and century...
